How Much ODSP Pays

A single person can receive up to $1,408 a month for basic needs and shelter combined. Couples and families receive more, and the precise amount depends on your living situation, family size, and any other income. Beyond income support, ODSP can cover prescription drugs, dental, vision, medical transportation, and assistive devices — these have no fixed amount and depend on your situation.

The July 2026 Rate Increase

Ontario is increasing ODSP rates by 1.9% effective July 1, 2026. According to the Ontario government, this is the fifth increase since September 2022, bringing the cumulative rise to more than 22%. ODSP rates are tied to inflation and adjusted every July. The 1.9% increase applies to:

  • basic needs and shelter maximum amounts for individuals and families;
  • board and lodge amounts;
  • the amount for a couple where both people have disabilities;
  • amounts for services from a long-term care home or specialized care residence.

Eligibility and Asset Limits

To qualify for ODSP income support you must be at least 18, an Ontario resident, in financial need, and have a substantial physical or mental impairment expected to last a year or more that is verified by a health-care provider.

LimitSingle personCouple
Asset limit$40,000$50,000

Exempt assets that do not count toward the limit include your primary residence, primary vehicle, RESPs, RDSPs, necessary household items, and pre-paid funerals. Certain income is also exempt, including the Canada Child Benefit and the Ontario Child Benefit, child support, and RDSP payments.

How Payments Arrive

ODSP is paid by direct deposit or a reloadable payment card for recipients without a bank account. Direct deposits usually appear on the scheduled date, though some banks post them the evening before. Applications can take a few months to process, so applicants may receive Ontario Works payments while waiting for an ODSP decision.
